Cisco-Linksys Compact Wireless-G Broadband Router WRT54GC Review

Cisco-Linksys Compact Wireless-G Broadband Router WRT54GC
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was thinking of purchasing an Airport Express module, but purchased this instead. It has a lower price, similar size, and a built-in 4-port switch which won me over. It was easy to configure using Safari and it's built-in setup wizard (no software needs to be installed). I got a strong signal on my Powerbook (4 bars on the Airport signal).
It offers WEP, WPA, and WPA2 security. Plus you can define specific times of day the WiFi is active as well as specific computers which can access your network (handy when you are at work and want to make sure no one is piggybacking your WiFi signal). I also connected my PS2 and Vonage VoIP module and everything works flawlessly. I'm a typical Mac user who is used to easy setup and good looking equipment and I'm pleasantly surprised at this Linysys product!

Compact all-in-one Internet-sharing Router, 4-port Switch, and 54Mbps Wireless-G Access Point. Almost 5 times faster than 802.11b, but can also interoperate with any 802.11b device (at 11Mbps).The Linksys Compact Wireless-G Broadband Router is really three devices in one small box. There's the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect both screaming fast Wireless-G (802.11g at 54Mbps) and Wireless-B (802.11b at 11Mbps) devices to the network. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together.Connect four PCs directly, or attach more hubs and switches to create as big a network as you need. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection.Once your computers are connected to the Router and the Internet, they can communicate with each other too, sharing a printer, digital music, picture and document files, and multi-player or on-line games. To protect your data and privacy, the Wireless-G Broadband Router can encode all wireless transmissions with WEP or industrial-strength WPA Personal encryption. The Router can serve as a DHCP Server, has a powerful SPI firewall to protect your PCs against intruders and most known Internet attacks, and supports VPN pass-through.Configuration is a snap with the web browser-based configuration utility. And the tiny form factor fits any home or desktop. With the Linksys Compact Wireless-G Broadband Router at the center of your home or office network, you can share a high-speed Internet connection, files, printers, and multi-player games with the flexibility, speed, and security you need!

Cisco-Linksys WKPC54G Wireless-G Network Kit for Notebooks Review

Cisco-Linksys WKPC54G Wireless-G Network Kit for Notebooks
Average Reviews:

I wanted to set up a wireless network and was very concerned with which hardware i was going to use. I read the mixed reviews of the (much cheaper) microsoft wireless notebook kit as well as the mixed reviews of the D-link router. It seamed that you were either gonna get something that worked great or crap. I have had nothing but great luck with this kit. I am running a Motorola surfboard modem, this kit, a linksys pc card serving three computers: a dell laptop (with the wireless card in this kit), a G4 powerbook (running mac os 10.3) and a homebuilt pc running windows xp home (with the linksys wireless desktop card). All 3 computers were online in less than one hour after the cable internet was activated. No matter what you hear about security, don't leave your network unprotected! Where i live there are 6 unprotected wireless networks, the best of them was from a linksys router. I just did a little casual surfing before the cable was installed, but i had access to all six of their ip addresses, their router hardware ids and could of easily set up a password for their networks, that they would never have (i could never do this, but someone else may). The first thing i did was enabled a WEP key and password protected my router configuration setup page. Everything was a breeze. I couldn't ask for a more stable router and overall network.

Netgear WGR101 Cable/DSL Wireless Travel Router Review

Netgear WGR101 Cable/DSL Wireless Travel Router
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I applaud Netgear for being first to market with this device (the only other I know of is the Apple Airport Express), designed for geeky business travellers. There've been many times when I've been in a hotel with wired Internet access but wanted to use my laptop across the room in bed, or in a conference room with one wired network drop and a handful of people who wanted to use it. Travelling with a 30-foot cable and/or a multi-port switch is no fun. This device is light and tiny, has a modest-sized power adapter, and even comes with a short cable for connecting to a wired port and a zippered carrying case for all of that plus your pc-card NIC.
If you're not concerned with security and have your wireless NIC set to do DHCP basically all you do is plug it in and you're all set. Configuring the device is kind of a pain though: you can only connect to it wirelessly, so if you forget the SSID after setting it not to broadcast, or forget the WEP key, you have to use the reset button and start over (make sure you hold it down a good 10 seconds, just pressing it once quickly doesn't work).
It doesn't act quite like a typical router despite some product literature I've read: on a hotel network it doesn't provide firewall or NAT security--keep in mind if the hotel assigns you a public IP you're bare naked on the Internet.
Although the physical switch on the unit that puts it in config or single-/multi-user mode is a neat idea for security, it gave me a lot of problems having to reassociate or power cycle the device after changing settings. Given that in its default state it's a pass-through device like a bridge and has no IP address, there may not be a significantly better way though.
I had little to no luck using this device with my home router or cable modem, but on a hotel wired access point it was seamless including VPN connectivity (unlike my Netgear MR814 at home). Range is very good even through walls and floors/ceilings. I got mine for about half price after rebates which, I think, just barely makes it worth it. If you like to have the latest gadget, and especially if you travel, this is less of a pain and certainly niftier than carrying around a 30-foot cable and/or hub.

D-Link DIR-451 3G Mobile Router for UMTS/HSDPA Networks Review

D-Link DIR-451 3G Mobile Router for UMTS/HSDPA Networks
Average Reviews:

I use this router with a pcmciaa Sierra aircard on the Cingular/ATT network. I'm very pleased it extended the capabilities of the card from simply allowing access from my lap top to using it as my overall internet connection at home. Speed is sufficient to play Final Fantasy on the Xbox and even hook up the Vonage router to make phone calls. It's certainly not as fast as my old wired dsl connection but that is not the router's fault just the fact of the cingular/att wireless network. For me this router saves me 50 bucks a month by allowing me to drop my wired connection. I grab my aircard when I leave for work in the morning and then after work and weekends just leave it in the DLink router for around the house always on internet connection. Great router I bet it would be a big seller if more people knew about it.

ZyXEL P330W 802.11g Wireless Router Review

ZyXEL P330W 802.11g Wireless Router
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is one of the few devices I've found that can be a bridge (a wireless Ethernet device), an AP/Router, or a WISP router. And for the money, this is a great buy.
I had a problem making WPA work in client/bridge mode, but I found a workaround that I'll share:
There is a bug in the P-330W Wireless / Security screen. The WPA/WPA2 TKIP Passphrase field is not storing the passphrase correctly.
I can reproduce this 100% of the time.
WORKAROUND:
Avoid the Wireless / Security settings entirely
1. Click on P-330W Setup Wizard
2. at WAN Interface Setup, click Next
3. at Wireless Basic Settings, set the SSID for the AP of which you want this bridge to be a client, click Next
4. at Wireless Security Setup, choose the WPA(TKIP) method (I did not try the other two WPA methods, but this probably applies to any WPA method with a passphrase).
5. Click Finish
6. Click Wireless / Basic Settings
7. Set Mode to Client, click Save
With this issue resolved, I'm enjoying this device very much.
